Sunday!

Watched the last of JJK Season 1 today! Very fun, yesssss.

Other than that, not a whole lot. Very satisfactory lazy Sunday!

So yeah, that was great fun and I can't wait to see more.

Since we got the Apple TV for this, I decided to take advantage and also start watching Severance. Just to demonstrate how out of touch I am with popular culture, up until about three weeks ago I hadn't realized that it was science fiction. I thought it was a mundane workplace drama, which explains why I haven't tried to watch it until now. Oops. Anyway, it's weird and dystopian and extremely well acted, and I've already finished season 1.

Saturday!

Slept until mid afternoon, which was, as ever, excellent.

Did the chooks, but that's about it as far as useful stuff went XD;;; Mostly reading and watching JJK - I got through the Junpei arc today, which was as depressing as the manga. Up to the exchange fight arc though and that's always fun!

Sleeby

Too tired for crochet again tonight! :(

But I WAS awake enough to turn the heel on my current sock, which isn't a thing I'll do in a meeting so it was a good time for that! So I was at least able to do some crafting, even if it wasn't the type I was intending on.

Other than that... work is still auditing, extremely boring. Got to see Gojo's sparkledoge eyes in JJK - can't remember if I mentioned I started watching that yesterday, if not, well, I did - and yep they really are as sparkly as advertised hahahahahahahaha

And now I go pass the fuck out, ugh, cannot WAIT to sleep in tomorrow and hopefully feel a bit refreshed!

Auditing. It's a long process.

Yeah, today was just... more auditing. Extremely boring!

We also got invited to go to a meeting and find out about a new feature, though, so that was nice. I mean. The feature itself is going to be a pain in the ass to automate because so many new pages and complicated processes, but at least we know something about it other than 'it exists and you'll have to write tests on it once QA have finished writing the steps' before it's Highest Priority and needing to be done yesterday despite only being finished next week. You know, the usual process. So hopefully that'll continue! (It was a demo for clients, so we couldn't really ask the kind of questions we have, but that's okay! We can find out that sort of shit later!)

Other than that... tried to work on jigglypuff, but alas brain was not braining crochet tonight. :( Tried twice, and just. Nope. Casting on was not a thing that was happening, sigh. Maybe tomorrow!

I did start watching Jujutsu Kaisen, which is pretty fun! I've already read the manga so no surprises for me, but it's done pretty well which is nice!

Wednesday, apparently.

Work was...

Well let's just say it was more annoying than yesterday and leave it there. Ugh. (A literal question I was asked at least twice: What does no mean?)

Other than that, met up with A after work, so that was fun! :D We didn't really do much, but that's okay! It was still nice. :3

Not really sure where the last couple of hours have gone, though um. I'mma... go sleep now. Yes.

I am hoping this is mostly a matter of timing...

Soooo the doctor wanted to tell me that my cholesterol is a bit high. Not a problem, but a thing to keep an eye on.

And that is all well and good, and also there's a family history of high cholesterol so it's doubly worth keeping track of buuuuut.... I also did the blood test the Tuesday after Easter. I'm just saying. Even if I was fasting for said blood test. The proceeding few days had a LOT more butter and chocolate than normal.

I'll try and cut down on some of the Problem Foods, of course, but I'm not too worried about it as of yet. We'll see what it's like in 6-8 months, and go from there, basically!

Other than that, work was more audit, plus gdocs doing a weird thing and Coworker I saving my ass from it. Including more 'wtf is wrong with you people' conversations with management. I did, at least, miss the meeting, so if there was an argument about it I didn't have to listen to it! We'll see if that continues tomorrow, I guess!

Noooooo not the dreaded audit...

Soooo today we were all told that auditing our tests against the QA tests is now our Highest Priority, Yes Even Over That, which is. Uuuuugh.

Grumbling )

On the upside, at least I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow and can't go into the office, and it's at a time where I can't make the meeting. Chances of me shouting at people have gone WAY down!

(On the downside, I have to go to the doctor and don't know why, just that she wants to see me, so that's a little stressful all on its own. :|)

Other than that, not a lot today really. It's cold, which has been unfun, but also it's mid-May so I can't really complain too much. Might need to start getting the leggings out for putting under pants, though. Legs are being the most chilled, even with a blanket over them, at least at the moment.

Anyway, bed now. Need a sleep, and also. Work. Bleh.

Sunday!

Another day of not much, honestly. Lots of reading fic, which has been nice.

Also cleaned the bathroom, 'cause the sink super needed it, but honestly that's about all. Well, I've only been up like 12 hours, that's probably part of the problem...

The Second of the Recced Book Reviews

The other day, I offered to read the first five books people recced - assuming they were available (preferably from the library) - and I'd give a short review [https://bethbethbeth.dreamwidth.org/701769.html].

Poison for Breakfast by Lemony Snicket (recced by [profile] ride4ever on Dreamwidth)

Note 1: I listened to the audiobook for this one because the narrator is Patrick Warburton, and his voice is great.

Note 2: I've never read ANY of the Series of Unfortunate Events books, so this is my first Lemony Snicket book, although this is a stand alone mystery (it's also technically "all-ages," but given the focus on poisoning and the philosophical tangents, maybe not ALL ages?)

The actual review? Very clever. Very meta. Quite funny. Incidentally, the purported "mystery" is very much not the point, which was just fine with me. :D

(quite short, also, if that's something you're looking for at some point)

Note 3: the reviewing plan has gone far beyond 5 books. :)

Sleepy Saturday

I spent several hours today sleeping in a sunbeam with a cat. It was excellent, A++ do recommend. :D

Also finished the jigglypuff's body! Just got limbs etc to do, which are all much smaller jobs! :3 It definitely is a big misshapen, but it'll be fiiiine, shouldn't be too noticeable once everything's put together!

Nothing much other than that. Chooks. Reading. Etc. And now is time for sleeps! Alas not in a sunbeam right now, given the sun is uh. Not here.

The first of the Recced Book Reviews

The other day, I offered to read the first five books people recced - assuming they were available (preferably from the library) - and I'd give a short review [https://bethbethbeth.dreamwidth.org/701769.html].

This is the first review - The Years by Annie Ernaux (recced by hopeinthenight on bluesky)

The Years is one of the most interesting & poetic memoirs I've read. Told in references to photos, the march of progress, family gatherings & catch phrases, this isn't just a memoir about one person, but also a memoir of a place (France) and a time (post-1940). The way The Woman sees her changing world resonated with me in a way it might not have done if I hadn't already shared so many of those experiences. I might have loved this book in my 20s, but it would have been a different sort of love

Note 1: Having spent little time in France, much of this book felt slightly alien to me, even some of the most quotidian elements (this was a feature, not a bug)

Note 2: I haven't been as conscious of reading all the words in a book for fear of missing something in a long time.

Note 3: When I finish the first 5 reviews, I'll carry on, but probably not until June.

Friday!

Yay weekend!

Work was productive, which is good, but also concentrating was difficult, so I'm glad it's break tiem nao yes.

Other than that... got distracted tonight trying to finish up the jigglypuff body - it's not quite full of stuffing, so I'll need to cut up some more old clothes, which is what took most of the time. This one's for me, so there's no need for nice new stuffing, and there's really nothing better to do with clothes so raggedy and torn they can't be worn any more! (I mean, plenty of equally valid things to do. But nothing better.)

Anyway now I go pass out yes. Ugh, it's fucking freezing, and I'm tired enough I'm hungry.

Rec a Book...get a review

Posting here and BlueSky:

Rec ONE book (fic or non-fiction / available in English) & I haven't already read it, I'll read it and post a one paragraph review by June 1.

(note: if more than 5 people rec something, I'll read the easiest to acquire first and save the rest for next month)

Thursday

Not a whole lot today, really. I mean. Tired, as always. Work was mostly me attempting to make a new test work, which was good! Actual forward progress, at least for like five seconds! Having problem with adding a certain type of data, so I'll have to pull that apart tomorrow and see if I can find what's broken, but hey. Forward momentum!

A dropped in on her way back from an appointment, since she was in the area! Only for a few minutes, but she brought me a creepy doll she made me, which was nice of her! They're intentionally creepy, so the creepiness is okay. Dunno how much I like it, but I enjoy it as an art piece. Not sure where I'll keep it, though...

Jigglypuff body is getting close to done! I've done something weird with it, so it's a little misshapen I think, but it'll be fine! Probably! Eventually! :D??

Cold. :|

It cold now. Do Not Like This, nope. My ankle likes this less, which is annoying. Bones, why you no heal in a way that stops this. Lack of evolutionary pressure to specifically get rid of it, I guess, and I know humans are actually pretty good at repairing bones, comparatively, but also uuuuugh.

Work was work. But got to see A after work, and that was pretty great! :D

Thinking about maybe going to a convention in a month or so, actually. My parents will probably be away, which honestly makes it somewhat easier (because brains are stupid, logically I know Mama would be thrilled I was going to An Social Event), and it looks like the actual con closes at 5 so I wouldn't, say, get super distracted in the art room and not get home until midnight, or something. So it might be fun?? But it will be expensive, and also. Big Social Crowds Thing on my own might be uh. Not so great?? But might be worth a try.

Anyway today was... work was fine? Still attempting to get this goddamn test to pass reliably. (It's at 20%. That is extremely unreliable, bleh.) Still got a couple more things to try before I give up on it again, though, so that's something.

After work we went out to dinner with Sibling, for birthday reasons. Food was great :V :V :V But also doing a social is exhausting. Really just read and did some crochet after we got home. And now sleeps!

Monday!

I feel like there was something I was intending to talk about today but I've forgotten what it is. That's annoying.

Anyway, work was fine? Annoying, bunch of stuff broke over the weekend, but at least I was able to get it fixed up (even if one is a bandaid fix, gross, but I can't figure out why it's broken and I think it might be one of the things Coworker JD has been messing with). Tomorrow, will be back to trying to make shit work again, which will be... well. :/ This afternoon once I was done with the regular maintenance stuff I wasn't able to get it to load due to a Known Issue, so it's really not looking great! Le Sigh.

Other than that... current pokemon event's going well - got all the mass outbreak shinies I need (though I will probably go get more banana fluffbirbs, because I'm love them), though the raid shiny is of course going to be ridic difficult. I'm not gonna try too hard, honestly, I don't care that much.
