timberwolfoz: (whee!)
Firstly, let me say how delighted I am that you share an interest in at least one of my smaller fandoms; possibly even all three. You never know; I keep bumping into familiar names from five fandoms ago or thereabouts. :)

Secondly, these prompts are only a guide if you're scratching your head and saying 'who is she and what the hell do I write for her?' If you've got a plotbunny that's been nibbling at your ankles, expecially if it needs just that little extra bit of impetus to transfer from your brain to your word processing program of choice, go for your life, as we say here. At the risk of sounding pompous, I'd rather you write the fic that you want to write and that has you burning with inspiration and typing so fast the program can't keep up than thinking 'ah, shit, I'd better write this because she wants it' and punching out a dutiful formulaic fic that bores you.

Overall I'd have to say my preferences for a fic are: slash, established or establishing relationship, humour and/or humourous banter as part of it. I also have a weakness for domestic/slice-of-life, in the sense of seeing how two (or in the case of Top Gear, three) men of disparate interests and backgrounds and sometimes ages deal with the nitty-gritty details of negotiating a relationship and sometimes setting up living arrangements together. Far from being fluffy, this can be comedy gold. Imagine Danny Butterman and Nicholas Angel let loose in an electronic store to choose a new TV, the Top Gear trio purchasing a new bed or couch, or Lewis and Hathaway arguing over what music to play or responding to an early-morning callout, particularly if they both need a shower because of last night's activities. I think you get the idea. *g*

However, I am by no means adverse to gen, het or femmeslash, so long as the relationship between our main male pairing (or threesome in the case of TG) is preeminent. Also, unlike a lot of people, I have no objection if existing female love interests or potential love interests are in the story or even involved (threesome, anyone?) though if you really prefer not to have the women get in the way of your slash, I won't grizzle. I don't mind whether you write a detailed plotty fic or a PWP; either is just fine. Also, while I like explicit and even mildish kink just fine, if you really struggle with the detailed sex scenes, I'm fine if you allude to that side of our protagonists' life; as I said to a friend once, a brush of fingers down the arm or across the hand can be more erotic than five pages of squish squish squelch creak grunt squish squelch argh.

Also, while I don't mind some angst, I'd prefer to avoid darkfic or deathfic (unless, say, in Lewis, we're alluding to Morse or Val Lewis) and have a happy ending (says the woman who's just written Lewis's eulogy for Morse's funeral). Like a lot of us, 2009 has been a shit of a year and I've had enough pain and anguish in RL, thanks. Mind you, I have been known to be swayed by a really good meaty version of either, so if you've got an especially rabid plotbunny...

Now to the individual fandoms!

Lewis aka Inspector Lewis (2006 tv)

This is the fandom of my heart at the moment; I've fallen so hard for it I've left an impact crater. ;) Also, I've got plotbunnies up the wazoo.

I wrote in my letter:

...my ideal fic would be Lewis/Hathaway. I'd love to see established relationship but wouldn't whinge at first-time either. A slice-of-life (especially if established relationship) or a nice meaty plot would be lovely. I'm quite happy with fluff or domestic if they're In Character -- the hijinks would be hysterical. Angst is fine, but no deathfic please, and please bring in some of the deadpan humour of the show. Bringing in Dr. Laura Hobson and Supt. Jean Innocent is just fine, as is any mention/appearances of Lewis's family, and any mention of Val Lewis or Morse.

I think I've pretty much said it all here, so I just need to reiterate that I adore Jean Innocent and Laura Hobson as characters, so if you have a way to work them in, whether as slash (amused observers or head-clutching superiors, or as others have posited, yentas having coffee together and muttering about Why Don't They Get It), gen (ditto, or any workplace mentoring interactions, particularly between Innocent and Hathaway), het (Hobson chats up the 'dishy sergeant Hathaway. Hathaway's initial reaction? O.O Also, while Lewis and Hobson come across to me as old colleagues and dear friends, I can certainly see them taking the next step very easily) and femmeslash (Innocent: (to Lewis) Have you shaved this morning? Hobson: (to Lewis) She hasn't.) I will be a very happy little Vegemite. Also would adore any reference to Lewis's kids, especially if it's their reaction to their father getting involved with a man who's not much older than themselves, and any reference to Val Lewis; comparing and contrasting her and Robbie Lewis's relationship to their current one, or what she'd think of the new one? Also, would adore any reference to Morse; Lewis reflecting on what Morse's reaction would be to his current relationship (especially if it's with his sergeant) -- would his reaction be the famous "Lew-is!" or would he, as someone posited, show up in Lewis's dreams and smirk at him?

Feel free to use any of the above if they give you ideas. If not, feel free to disregard. :)

Hot Fuzz

Another relatively new fandom, in which I'm gorging myself on fanfic in bouts, in between writing Lewis fic. No inspiration for fiction as yet, but that may very well change.

My letter said:

...definitely Danny/Nick, either first time or established relationship. Humour goes without saying. I''ve no objections to fluff or domesticity as long as they're in character, and while angst is fine, no deathfic please. I'd be happy with either fluff or something meatier, depending on what you come up with. Ideal scenarios would be an evening on the couch watching - or not watching - Danny's video collection, or if something meatier, just what happened in between the time we saw Danny lying in the rubble of the Sandford Police station and when we saw him back on patrol with Nick.

To build further on that, I would say that my definite preference is for the Nicholas/Danny relationship; would love slash but can be as gen as the movie was. ;) Would love for any or all of the station staff to be brought in, especially if it's with them finding out about Danny and Nick's relationship and reacting in typical fashion. Also, I should say that I can take the Andies or leave them, so I'd be just as happy if you didn't focus on them; unless, say, it's a crossover with Lewis. Now that would be comedy gold. :D

RPF - Top Gear UK

This is a fandom that I've backed away from some this year, but am starting to feel the stirrings of interest again. I've written some fic at [livejournal.com profile] timberfics locked to members, so feel free to join, either yourself in concert with some interested friends to throw me off the scent, or have a compliant friend join and pass them on. ;)

I said in my letter:

...my ideal would be Richard/Jeremy or OT3, with a close second to James/Jeremy. Possible plot ideas: how they all came to terms with their relationship, post-accident (especially if you're going for the 'the big house in which we all live' scenario) or why James and Jeremy seem to be growing closer and Richard/James and Richard/Jeremy not so close, again, post accident. But given the vast canvas that is TG, anything you can come up with. Slice-of-life or domesticity (TG style) is fine, no problem with mention or inclusion of wives/girlfriends and kids. Angst fine, deathfic no -- we came close enough a few years back, thanks.

To build further on that, if we're going for the slash option, my preferred order of pairing would be:

1) OT3

2) Jeremy/Richard

3) Jeremy/James

4) James/Richard (while I like it, I don't like it as much).

I should also add that unlike some authors in the fandom, the idea of (technical) adultery and including the wives and girlfriend doesn't give me hives; in fact in my 'Verbier' series I'm dealing with how the TG3 integrate their relationship into their existing relationship. That said, the trope of 'oh, they got divorced' with no further mention makes me roll my eyes -- either explain why two strong marriages and/or a lasting relationship ended or ignore the whole thing and have it an AU of 'that big house in which we all live together' as James once put it. Before or after the accident fine, focusing on one pairing within the threesome fine. Also, given that Jeremy lives near(ish) to Oxford, a crossover with or a reference in Lewis would be a hoot. ("What on earth is with the traffic today?" "I believe they're filming Top Gear here again today, sir." "That's all we need." "Well it could be worse; we could be in Traffic." "Yeah. Thank God I decided against that transfer." "You what, sir?")

Also, while I love the slashy element of the show, gen, het or femmeslash (mmm-mmmm!) would be just luvverly.

As I said, if these ideas are of any help, I'm glad, but if you've got a preference along some other lines, I look forward to what you come up with.

Thank you again, and I look forward to what you gift me with! :)
